Whale Dreaming

Detail of colour, added materials and negative space.

Top view.
This is where we see the whale.

Zoom in on negative space.
Ropes and vines, threaded through one of the holes.

Front view.

This sculpture, made at the same time as the following two sculptures was so much fun to make. They all were, really. But I loved making something so big. The studio in Phuket where I was able to work manufactures ceramics for hotels. They have huge gas fired kilns, the size of a small bedroom. Size was not a limit for me.
Whale Dreaming has the same colours as the Mermaids' Tango; Rich Dark Caramel brown and contrasting light gold created with melted glass over the glaze.
I've added ropes and vines that were washed up on the beach. These have been woven through the holes and rise up through the whale.
Dimensions = H 45cm x L 65cm x w 30cm
Porcelain and mixed media
